To provide environment-conscious products, RISO KAGAKU CORPORATION continues the effort to procure less environmental loading materials and components.

RISO has been pursuing green procurement systems to provide environment-friendly products.
To lessen the environmental burden, environmental considerations must also be applied to the components and materials of the products.
To cope with such requirements, RISO has specified its principles and standards in the “Riso Kagaku Group Green Procurement Standard.” In accordance with this standard, RISO requests that suppliers not only apply environmental considerations to the components and materials they deliver, but also establish an environmental management system. They are requested to acquire certification of their EMS, such as ISO 14001 or Eco-Stage, so that the proper control is maintained and enhanced.

Riso Kagaku Group Green Procurement Standard (main points)

1.	Positive attitude for improvement of environmental protection.
2.	Observation of applicable environmental regulations and laws.
3.	Elimination of materials prohibited by the company standard from the production process and from the material procurement operations.

RISO established its “Riso Kagaku Group Green Procurement Standard”, which specifies fifteen prohibited substances* and nine environment consideration substances.
*Including six substances restricted by EU RoHS Directive.

RISO products marketed in EU area have already completed to conform to EU RoHS Directive by June 2006. As to another directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances, so called China RoHS, RISO’s products have already completed to conform by March 2007.

EU RoHS Directive
Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS Directive) took effect on 1 July 2006 by EU. This directive restricts the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment. It restricts the use of Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls and Polybrominated diphenyl ether.

China RoHS Directive
Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive took effect on 1 March 2007 in China. Similar to RoHS in EU, six hazardous materials, Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls and Polybrominated diphenyl ether, and materials fixed by the government, are restricted the use. There is a list of included products sold in China, known as the catalogue which is a subset of the total scope of Electronic Information Products, or EIPs, to which the regulations apply.
