Partnership with Suppliers
We promote procurement of parts and raw materials with low environmental impact through partnerships with our suppliers to develop, produce, sell, and recycle environmentally friendly products.
Setting Quality Standards for Suppliers and Procured Items
Green Procurement Standard
We procure parts, raw materials, and subsidiary materials such as adhesives, solders, and paints used in production that meet our standards in accordance with the Riso Kagaku Group Green Procurement Standard. We request our suppliers to comply with environmental laws, regulations and our standards on environmentally related substances, and to establish and operate an environmental management system such as ISO14001. We held briefing sessions on the Riso Kagaku Group Green Procurement Standard in Japan and China to thoroughly implement our procurement policy and standards with their deeper understanding. We support our suppliers whose environmental management systems have not yet been established or operated in obtaining Ecostage* certification. We make every effort to be environmentally friendly throughout our supply chain.
*One of the environmental management systems evaluated and certified by Ecostage Institute.
Approach to Auditing and Partnering with Overseas Suppliers to Improve Quality
Overseas manufacturing plants procure parts locally. RISO INDUSTRIES (H.K.) LTD. which manages procurement in China cooperates with the quality control department of RISO INDUSTRIES (SHENZHEN) LTD. to audit their suppliers required quality improvement and to provide them guidance on the measures and management systems. Under the partnership, we collaborate with suppliers to improve quality and reduce defective parts continuously.
Briefing Sessions Held in Japan and China on How to Prepare Information Sheets on Chemical Substances Contained in Products
Environmental regulations around the world are increasingly calling for the proper management of chemical substances contained in products throughout their life cycles and the clarification of chemical information. We use information transmission sheets "AIS*" recommended by the Joint Article Management Promotion-consortium (JAMP) to comply with the obligation to report on chemical substances regulated in REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, one of the European chemical regulations). In 2012, we held briefing sessions for suppliers in Japan and China on how to prepare AIS and made progress in building a system for collecting information more accurately and efficiently.
*Article Information Sheet. Sheets for information transfer on chemical substances contained in products. The sheet contains information such as the mass, portion used, materials, and the presence, names, quantity of content, and concentration per article to transmit themselves to the downstream of the supply chain.
AIS has been transferred to chemSHERPA(Chemical information SHaring and Exchange under Reporting PArtnership in supply chain).
Approach to Responsible Mineral Sourcing
Tin, tantalum, tungsten, gold, and other mineral resources mined from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring countries are called conflict minerals and are being regulated worldwide. We take measures regarding these conflict minerals in compliance with laws and regulations.
Since 2021, we have been conducting surveys of our suppliers to check for conflict mineral risks in their supply chains.
We proceed with the surveys using systems and tools established by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI).
